1. Q: What is the image intensifier?
A: The first practical x-ray image intensifiers is manufactured by Holland Philips in 1952. Its appearance is regarded as a milepost in the x-ray imaging field. X-ray is not visible due to its physical characteristics. The early use of x-ray imaging is dependent on the compounds (which is sensitive to x-ray) excited by x-ray to produce fluorescence. Therefore, when using x-ray for medical examination, if not to make corresponding protection, the operator will be injured by x-ray radiation in different degrees, at the same time, if the radiation dose is too large, the examination body will be also injured by x-ray radiation. Based on this reason, people are actively seeking a method to reduce the radiation dose and to protect operator far from radiation. Then, the x-ray image intensifier is being produced.
2. Q: What is the workprinciple of image intensifier?
A: The working principle of x-ray image intensifier (hereinafter called intensifier) is realized by using the electronic and Optical principles of physics. In some simple words, the x-ray penetrates the examination body forming an image, which projects to the image input end of image intensifier, thereby stimulating the input end of image intensifier to produce weak visible light image. This weak visible light stimulates the photocathode to produce escaping electron. Under the high voltage electric field, the electron is accelerated and focused to the image output end of image intensifier. The electron and the accelerated focus stimulate the image output screen of image intensifier to produce sufficient brightness visible image. The image brightness produced from the output screen is enough to allow the electronic camera photosensitive, thereby realizing the conversion from x-ray signal to visible light signal to electric signal. The electric image of the converted photoelectric signal could be processed by the camera and transmitted to a farther place, where it could use the monitor to watch. Therefore, it realizes the operator and the machine isolation, which makes the operator far from radiation. Meantime, due to the electron accelerated stimulation principle of the image intensifier, which could make the image brightness is further enhanced, so that the radiation of the examination person is reduced substantially, and then realizing the purpose of reducing radiation injure.
